I’m an instructional designer at UGA Online. I partner with faculty to shape course content, media, and assessments. Then I build the custom HTML pages and web apps that present it in eLC. I also review course media and fix accessibility issues.

How I got here

I started my career as a high school band director at Morgan County Charter High School. Alongside teaching, I wrote curriculum, including KASH, a year-long soft-skills program taught by every teacher in the building. That project was my first real instructional design work. From there I went on to earn an M.Ed. in Learning, Design, and Technology at UGA.

At UGA I coordinated the Presentation Collaboratory Fellowship, a public speaking program for first-generation and rural undergraduates. Later, at the Center for Teaching and Learning, I led workshops that helped faculty use eLC and other campus learning technologies. Then I joined UGA Online.

I’ve also worked with private clients. I’ve revised more than 24 online courses across STEM and the humanities, consulted on process improvement and employee onboarding for healthcare organizations, and built an online content strategy for a real estate agent. I also led curriculum development and state accreditation for a UI/UX education firm.

How I work

I practice learning experience design. Instruction has to be effective and efficient, and it should also be engaging and easy to use. My work starts with understanding what learners actually experience. Then I decide what to build.

I also make the purpose of each activity clear and tie content to the situations where people will use it. Learners engage more, and learn more deeply, when they can see why it matters.

My research looks at how 4E cognition can inform instructional design, especially for students preparing to enter a profession. You can read more on my Research & Teaching page.
